Get ready for Christmas by making these Paper Straw Christmas tree ornaments with the kids! This holiday craft is easy to customize and it's fun for everyone.

I often find packs of paper straws in the clearance aisle at Target, at Goodwill or craft stores. We don't like them for drinking, but they make the best food photo props for the blog and we use them for crafting.

These homemade ornaments are a great gift for grandma and grandpa or any other family members. You don't have to stick to just using Christmas colors, you can do a fun blue or purple tree too depending on what straws you have on hand.

We use foam peel and stick stars for the top and they're just the perfect touch.

This craft can be great for all ages. The little ones will need some help with cutting and gluing, but the older kids should be fine assembling their own. You can use craft glue instead of a glue gun to make it safer for everyone.

Once the ornament fries, it'll be ready to hang on the tree! Make sure to name and date the back so you know exactly which Christmas you made them!

Paper Straw Christmas Tree Ornament

Author: Sweet Hazel Honey

materials:

  • Large craft sticks
  • Acrylic paint
  • Foam brushes
  • Paper straws
  • Ruler
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue gun
  • Star for topper
  • String

steps:

  1. Paint the front and sides of the craft stick. Allow to dry and paint one more coat.
  2. While your paint is drying, measure and cut your straws. I started with 10 cm for the bottom and cut each layer .5 cm shorter than the last.
  3. Using the glue gun and working from the bottom up, attach each straw to the front of the painted side of the craft stick. Attach the star to the top of the tree.
  4. Trim the straws as needed on both sides of the craft stick so that it is in the shape of a Christmas tree.
  5. Cut a 6” length of ribbon or twine, form a loop and using the craft glue or glue gun, attach to the top of the back side of the craft stick.
  6. Allow to dry completely before hanging.
