Earth Day is coming up and I have the perfect science activity to share with you today!

This easy and fun Fizzy Earth Science Experiment is created with simple supplies. The baking soda and vinegar mixture produces a fizzy reaction and a cool texture for the surface of the earth.

You can use different colors and different shaped pans to experiment for holidays, make flowers, shapes and so much more.

This activity is best for preschool and elementary aged kiddos. Pair it with your favorite books about earth and make an earth themed snack for a day full of activities.

Fizzy Earth Science Experiment

materials:

  • small bowls
  • white vinegar
  • green food coloring
  • blue food coloring
  • stirring straws
  • round pan
  • baking soda
  • spatula
  • dropper

steps:

  1. Fill two small bowls about 3/4 full with vinegar.
  2. Add about 5 drops of green food coloring to one bowl. Add about 5 drops of blue food coloring to the other bowl. Stir well.
  3. Pour baking soda into the pan and spread out into an even layer using a spatula.
  4. Fill the dropper with the green colored vinegar. Drop the vinegar onto the baking soda around the pan to represent ‘land.’ Watch the fizzy reaction!
  5. Fill the dropper with the blue colored vinegar. Drop the vinegar onto the baking soda around the pan to represent ‘water.’ Watch the fizzy reaction!
  6. Continue this process until all of the baking soda is colored either green or blue to look like earth.
